Clay Vajgrt’s art returns art to its mythic and sacred roots. He grew up in the wild lands of Wisconsin where he developed a strong visceral awareness of the natural order of life by roaming the forests, ponds, lakes, and streams of the area. Clay developed his artistic abilities at an arly age by drawing from his father’s art books, comic books, and real life objects culled from his own natural history collections. He carried that love of art and nature into his university studies at the University of Wisconsin -Stout, where he received his Bachelors degree. His readings of the works of Joseph Campbell, Carlos Casteneda, and others, influenced his love of native cultures and mythic beliefs. A lifetime of athletics and now yoga has heightened Clay’s understanding of the human body as a energy system beyond its perceived borders, and he uses these meditative figures to add the feel of unified life in his paintings. Oil and acrylic paints are layered, scraped, and brushed on to canvas to create spirit filled images of dancing energy. These windows to inner worlds may remind us of the common threads of our magnetism and the fleeting moments of our shared beauty. Clay has continued to cultivate his visions and commitment to raising awareness by living, traveling, and teaching art in various cities in the U.S., Europe, and Central America, (where he studied with a native shaman). More then twenty years of painting, creating and teaching art has led Clay to be able to share his visions with others at a deeply personal level. His art is in private collections throughout the United States and Europe.
